Writing folders are a little different than writing offices. Writing offices are more like having all your writing anchor charts and writing resources right there where your students can easily see them while they write. It is also a good way to help students from becoming distracted by giving them something to block off what else is going on in the class so then can fully concentrate on the writing process.
If you missed my blog about writing folders be sure and click HERE to see those resources I shared.
I plan to only make a few of these instead of a class set, that students can use during small group reading time during their assigned time in the writing center. Here are some of my favorite resources for writing offices.
First of all, if you have never heard of This Reading Mama, you have got to check out her blog. She shares so many great resources and many of them are free once you sign up to receive her newsletter. And trust me, it is worth it.
She shares two different versions of this in her freebies that are just for subscribers. One is for younger students and one for older students. Once you have signed up for her newsletter she will send you a special password you can use to get to her special freebie section. Look in the section called Learning Folders.
Trust me, once you see all she has to offer, this site will become a regular stop for you when you are looking for resources.
What I love about this resource is that it takes you step by step on how to use 2 folders to make these offices. In their free download they include calendar words as well as a mini word wall.
I have one last resource to share. I just happen to stumble across this one and it was such a different idea for a writing office/tool I just had to share. This is a paid resource but such an interesting idea is you want every student to have a writing office but don’t want something that takes up too much space. Yes- a mini writing office that fits in a pencil box! Definitely worth checking into.
Hope you have gotten some inspiration and useful ideas. Be sure and check in for the next post which will look into introducing writing workshop to your students.
Until then….
